i'm having a blast. but, walking around a big city by myself all day has created moments of lonliness. in my moments of lonliness, i've been able to empathize with folks who live in lonely city all the time.
my friend morriss used to live in nyc. he described it as 6 million of the loneliest people in the world. people are sqished together and yet totally separate.
i saw a news program about wireless internet in coffee shops. the commentator said that the marketing draw this creates has to do with an emerging trend. the trend is that we like to get out of the house and be alone around other people.
i'm proud of this poem. look at the syllables and the basic structure. think of the line "in the city" as a mirror. if the first half of the poem is a building near a body of water, then the second half is its' reflection.
this goes out to Kerry, age 17, whose mom put her out on the street in London this week. it goes out to John and Donna who play music in the subways for change. it goes out to everyone i walked by today and didn't notice because i was thinking about how lonely i was.
